The Floating World

This exhibition evokes the extraordinary ‘floating world’ of Japan during the Edo period, a time of extreme insularity when a flowering of culture and dedication to the pleasures of life happened in isolation within the borders of Japan.  We developed and delivered the exhibition, alongside creating merchandising and publishing a catalogue to accompany the displays.

300 Masterpieces

We brought together 300 masterpieces, never-before-seen in Italy, from important private collections and five museums across Europe. The objects were diverse - woodblock prints by major masters of the ukiyo-e style, kimonos, theatre masks, ornaments, and sculptures. Visitors can explore the many facets of life in Japan at the time, from pleasure-seeking urban culture with kabuki theatre, geishas, and tea house culture, to the creation of extraordinary works of art inspired by love, nature, and Samurai warriors.
