The Book of Kells Experience
Reviving Trinity’s Old Library through an enchanting experience
Trinity College Dublin commissioned us to develop a temporary exhibition that conveyed the essence of its Old Library while the library itself underwent vital conservation works. We developed an Exhibition Strategy and Feasibility Study that assessed the exhibition’s financial viability and provided a suite of design proposals. The chosen concept was an immersive storytelling journey housed in a purpose-built, temporary structure at the heart of Trinity’s campus.

The Old Library, home to the historic Book of Kells and the breath-taking Long Room, is one of Ireland’s national treasures and a major tourist asset for the college. The central challenge of the interim exhibition was to evoke the library’s unique spirit of place and create a must-see attraction while the Old Library received much-needed care.
Our concept presents the exhibition as a treasure chest of Trinity College stories, filled with characters and objects that come to life around visitors as they explore the space. The exhibition’s temporary structure offered the opportunity to use leading edge technology and immersive storytelling techniques. Cases of books begin to move, busts start to talk, creating moments of magic, surprise and delight.
